Kijeong is a painter who captures warm and cozy moments, and spaces in soft textured hanji paper with shades of blue.
The artist focuses on preserving the tough and soft characteristics of Hanji paper where blunt tools are used to create a textural painting. Alternatively, she would soak the
paper with a generous amount of blue paint and spread the modeling paste before getting into the scraping process with sharp tools.

She expresses memories and emotions of familiar things that give a soft and cozy feeling and stability in visual language. Among Kijeong’s work, there are many stories about family where she expressed a lot of emotions, understanding, warmth, and comfort towards her family from multiple roles of a daughter, a sister and a granddaughter. She believes that she will continue to portray a variety of perspectives of woman in her future artwork as she takes on new roles in life.

Kijeong also shared that the most memorable piece of advice she received was that the best starting point to expand an artwork is to first explore one’s identity of “myself”, and then unfold one’s story from there.
She sees International Women’s Day as a day to honour the equal rights of female workers, and believes that it is an important day for people to reflect on its historical significance.

A contemporary artist based in Seoul, Suyon’s artwork connects her individual being with social norms and phenomena, which are the main debates of modern society. Using paper pulp, which is a symbolic material that has similar contradictory meanings yet functional, as well as hanji paper, she creates new physical properties. At the same time, her works question the expandability of the medium that explores the boundaries between flat and three-dimensional surfaces by utilizing the new properties created by hanji.

While curating new art pieces may be stressful and not all fun, the sense of achievement and pleasure from looking at the result of Suyon’s hard work is what gives her the momentum to keep going.
“To trust your intuition… create what you truly want and in
a way that you want to do it.”

As a 3D artist, Hyunsu translates current market trends using memes and images from social media, where she then produces images, videos and digital focus works that use computer-generated imagery, generally known as CGI. She creates her art pieces through gathering references, reviewing, planning and finding suitable programs before putting them into action accordingly to each project, while also factoring in the simulations and processes required in the works.

Through artworks, it has empowered Hyunsu as a woman as she gained layers of new perspectives from giving more thoughts into the diverse forms on the topic about females. She believes that this has constantly impacted the way she lives as a woman.

As international women’s day approaches, the artist also shared that while it is a time to reflect on women’s rights and position once again, it is also a shame that we still have to commemorate International Women’s Day as a designated day.
